One of the hottest years on record confirmed as scientists warn of rising climate risks

Scientists have confirmed that 2025 ranked among the three hottest years ever recorded, with the global three-year average breaking past the 1.5°C threshold set by the 2015 Paris Agreement, driven largely by continued greenhouse gas emissions and despite short-lived cooling effects from natural climate patterns. Researchers identified more than 150 extreme weather events closely linked to climate change, including deadly heatwaves, floods in Mexico, and super typhoons in the Philippines, stressing that the increasing frequency and intensity of such events pose mounting risks to ecosystems, communities, and economies worldwide, and highlighting the urgent need for stronger international climate policies and adaptation measures.
